Description
The purpose of this training is to educate individuals about mosquito production and control in and around wastewater treatment plants. With the presence of West Nile Virus in Culex spp. Mosquitoes, this education is very important. Culex spp. Mosquitoes constitute > 95% of positive mosquito samples in Pennsylvania and this species complex is typically encountered > 99% of the time in sewage treatment plants. We intend to teach operators how to conduct inspections to find breeding mosquito populations in their plants and discuss methods of control. Methods of control will include both physical manipulation of plant operations and pesticide applications. Pertinent Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture regulations regarding pesticide applications in wastewater treatment facilities will also be discussed.
